Description:
This residency is a 3-year (36 months), full time, post-graduate program of 108 credits obtained mostly from clinical training. A diploma (D.E.S.) is awarded on completion of the program. The intensive clinical training is concentrated in the field of equine internal medicine. There is additional training in other selected specialties in order to meet the requirements of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal Internal Medicine). The resident will participate in the clinical examination of animals (outpatients, emergencies and hospitalized patients) and in the daily supervision of interns and undergraduate students during their rotations in equine internal medicine. He (she) may also be asked to supervise the teaching laboratories of junior students. The resident will also participate in emergency duty according to the Equine Hospital requirements. The resident is required to complete a research project, for which financial support is available. Residents are eligible for 3 weeks of holidays per year. Veterinary medical activities performed outside the residency program are not allowed. A master’s or a PhD program may be offered after satisfactory completion of the first year.
Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent
- Completion of an internship or equivalent experience
- Practising license from the Ordre des Médecins Vétérinaires du Québec
- Working knowledge of French
Tuition fees (Amounts shown are in Canadian currency):
- Quebec, Canadian outside Quebec: On average $16,293 for the duration of training
- French/French-speaking Belgian students: On average $18,872 for the duration of training
- International students: On average $60,728 for the duration of training, including the UdeM exemption scholarship

Remuneration:
- $27,000 /1st year
- $29,000 /2nd year*
- $31,000 /3rd year*
To these amounts are added $1 782 for the 1st year, $1 914 for the 2nd year and $2 046 for the 3rd year (3.6 % for the payment of public holidays and 3 % for benefits). A 2% contribution of gross salary will be deducted for union dues. Salary and conditions will follow the agreements stipulated in the collective agreement. Please note that depending on the specialty, a fee related to the specialty college may also be requested.
* Continuation of the program to a second and third year depends on the mutual satisfaction of the resident and the Faculty.
The resident has a $3,200 allowance to attend conferences in his/her specialty, training program or book purchases (maximum $CA 500).
The resident participates in the on-call service during evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed and according to the schedule established by the service, not exceeding 17.3 weeks of on-call duty over a 12-month period. This contribution to the on-call service is accompanied by a maximum additional remuneration of $5,190 per year.

- The email addresses of two references will be needed during the application process; the references will have to fill out a form sent to them directly by the Université de Montréal and need to return the completed form by following the instructions. No other forms or reference letters will be needed;
- Students who have completed a clinical rotation at our Veterinary Teaching Hospital (CHUV) must provide their evaluation with their application for admission.

Candidate selection:
The selected candidate will be contacted on December 2nd, 2024, 8:00 am by phone and email. The candidate will have 24 hours to accept or decline the position. If a candidate withdraws, the next candidate on the rank list will be contacted until all positions are filled. The rank list will not be disclosed. This process can take several days. Candidates on the waiting list and candidates not selected will be notified by email.
